After a slow start to Christmas spending shoppers were out spending in force tempted by exclusive weekend-only discounts, offers and giveaways and the promise of traffic-free streets across the weekend for the first time ever. Retailers across the country are offering discounts of up to 50% as they try to get people spending on what is one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year so far. Retailers were pinning their hopes on early sales bargains boosting their takings on what is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days of the year.
